Abstract
Vaszkun (2024e) explores the evolution of management theories and practices that have originated from the Western world, particularly focusing on North America and Europe. Western management's influence stems from foundational theories such as scientific management, administrative theory, and bureaucratic management, all of which have laid the groundwork for modern organisational practices. A key shift in Western management thinking occurred with the introduction of human relations and behavioural theories, or the contingency theory with the structural adaptation movement. The essay also explores how globalisation and the rise of international competition, especially from Japan in the late 20th century, forced Western companies to re-evaluate their management strategies, leading to the development of strategic management.
