Abstract

The aim of the present study is to give a realistic answer to the following question: Is there continuity between the controlled economic system developed in Hungary before World War II and the centrally planned one of the post-war era? Although the analytical framework is restricted here to Hungary, it may well be assumed that, in essence, the tendencies outlined below are to be regarded as the typical elements of the parallel developments in East Europe.
