Abstract

Berend T. Iván 90. születésnapja alkalmából jelent meg Élj érdekes időkben! című esszégyűjteménye. Az elemzés vezérfonalát a populista politika képezi, amelyet a szerző napjaink egyik legfontosabb kihívásának tart az Egyesült Államokban és Európában egyaránt. Az esszégyűjtemény alapján a cikk bemutatja a populizmus leglényegesebb jellemzőit, történeti gyökereit, legfontosabb magyarázatait és viszonyát az Európai Unióhoz. = The article reviews the collection of essays by Iván T. Berend published on the occasion of his 90th birthday. The review focuses on the analysis of populism, which the author considers a crucial challenge of our age both in the United States and Europe. On the basis of the book the article provides an overview on the main characteristics of populist regimes and leaders, the historical roots of populism and the explanations behind the phenomenon. It highlights the fact that while there are national varieties of populism, the anti-European Union sentiment common to them is one of their chief distinguishing characteristics.
